Nature in Jesolo

Jesolo is surrounded by the distinctive landscape of the Venetian Lagoon: as you proceed along the strip of land that leads to Punta Sabbioni (and the ferry port providing easy access to Venice), the cool shade of the pine woods makes way for the canals and shoals of the lagoon.

In the canals and pools of water on the narrow stretch of land between the sea and the lagoon, there is a wide variety of flora and fauna. On the foot and cycle paths leading to the old villages of Mesole and Lio Piccolo, visitors can catch a glimpse of birds such as pink flamingos, herons, cormorants, black-winged stilts and egrets.

A large number of private companies organize boat trips in the sea and around the lagoon, allowing tourists to take a closer look not only at the animals but also at the old fishermen’s homes known as “casoni”, pile dwellings, old farmhouses, “peocere” (mussel farms) and the many fish farms in the area, where eels, sea bass, gilthead bream and grey mullet are raised.
