Until a couple of decades ago, the land in Altanea was used for intensive farming. It was not until the early 21st century that it began being converted into a tourist resort.
In the residential development plan, it was decided to preserve the environmental characteristics of the location. Therefore, when the holiday villages were built, plenty of space was set aside for areas of greenery, gardens, pedestrian and cycle paths and areas dedicated to sport, recreation and amusement.
Numerous predominately native plant species have been planted – and will continue to be planted – alongside the roads and in the gardens and parks. Each of them has given its name to an aparthotel or holiday village, such as “Olmi” (“Elms”), “Salici” (“Willows”) and “Lecci” (“Holm Oaks”) to name but a few.
It is easy to get around by bike thanks to the pedestrian and cycle paths that lead down to the beach and to the nearby resorts of Porto Santa Margherita and Caorle, past an artificial lake and through green meadows and cool shade.
A small wood separates the holiday villages from the sandy Altanea beach. In an area known as the Elf Wood in the shade under the foliage, the children in the Mini Club play and have fun with the entertainment staff every day.
The whole family can play on the fine, golden sand and in the clean sea without a care in the world. They can rest assured that their surroundings are safe and healthy, as demonstrated by the international Blue Flag that is awarded to the most sustainably managed beaches.
